PRESS RELEASE: Friends of Southwest Virginia Executive Director Appointed to the Southeast Tourism Society Board

FRIENDS OF SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR APPOINTED TO THE SOUTHEAST TOURISM SOCIETY BOARD

ABINGDON, Va. (Thursday, October 12, 2023) – Friends of Southwest Virginia Executive Director Kimberly Davis was recently appointed to serve on the Board of Directors of the Southeast Tourism Society.

The Southeast Tourism Society (STS) is a not-for-profit membership association dedicated to the development of travel and tourism professionals and organizations within the Southeast region. The association’s mission is to empower a diverse network of tourism professionals through Education, Advocacy, Recognition, and Networking.

“I am extremely honored to receive this appointment,” said Davis. “It is a privilege to serve alongside dedicated professionals in advancing the tourism industry in the Southeast United States. This also underscores the fantastic work happening in Southwest Virginia. From working alongside our partner organizations, to showcasing the unique stories that define our Southwest Virginia region, I intend to utilize this appointment as a platform for continuing the growth of Southwest Virginia.”

Member states of the Southeast Tourism Society include Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia, plus the District of Columbia.

“The STS Board of Directors are leaders within the travel and tourism industry, who we look to as the visionaries for our organization,” said Monica Smith, President and CEO, of Southeast Tourism Society. The Board’s leadership provides valuable insight as STS continues to advocate for and support the tourism industry, particularly in regards to promoting travel to our 13 member states and Washington D.C.  Each board member brings a unique skillset or expertise that will help us to continue enhancing professional development within our industry, and responsibly promote travel to our region.”

Davis’s two-year appointment will begin this fall as she continues to work with partner agencies both regionally and nationally to promote Southwest Virginia.
